"CanCam" is a monthly women's fashion magazine published by Shogakukan. It is a representative "red-letter系" magazine, along with "JJ" and "ViVi," targeting women in their early 20s as its main readership.
It was first published in January 1982. The cover of the first issue featured Etsuko Matsuzaki, who subsequently appeared on the cover continuously until the June issue.
It was launched to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of Shogakukan and became a magazine that led Shogakukan in the 1980s.
While the early pages featured fashion and beauty information set in a university setting, a trend towards luxury occurred from the mid to late 1980s, eliminating the university setting and transforming into a magazine with an OL (office lady) orientation that conveyed a sense of status.
