Amazing antique German “Coln Dom” or Cologne Cathedral brooch. This piece of wearable art has a scene of the famous Cologne Cathedral beautifully painted and protected with a glass dome. To me, it looks like there is abalone shell peaking through, as it has shimmering, pearlescent areas where it is lighter. I don’t know this for sure. It just looks that way. The painting has almost a 3 dimensional appearance and is quite beautiful. It is set in brass and has a simple C claps. The piece was done on top of a silver disc and tab closures keep it in place. I’m unsure if there is any other material, if any, between the shell and the silver back. It is set in brass and has a filigree type framing. It really is a miniature framed piece of art that you can wear! Stunning collectible! R1
