This unique Tufa was formed underwater when cold artisan springs jetted upward through an ancient sea floor. The minerals that formed this Tufa (Silica and Calcium), was transported from the ground water into the supersaturated sea water and it percolated down to the sea floor and solidified. The spring waters continued to deposit minerals, polish the undersides of the Tufa, as well as form artistic holes. Eventually the ground waters and sea waters subsided and the sand dunes covered the deposits. These unusual deposits are found only in a ranch in a remote basin in Central Nevada where they were discovered in 1999
