This is a antique Holy Bible, distributed under the terms of the Will of Philip, Lord Wharton. • Origin: The Bibles were provided through a trust established by Philip, Lord Wharton, in his will dated 1696, to be distributed to children and young people. • Publisher: These Bibles were typically published by Oxford University Press as this one is. • Presentation date: The text in the image indicates this specific copy was "Presented 1909". It was presented to Kate Bee of the of Longridge. (please see photo 7). • Condition: The copy is a black leather-bound book with gilt lettering and page ends. • Requirements: Recipients were historically expected to memorize certain Psalms to receive a copy. An antique leather bound bible, from 1909, with gold lettering on front stating "By the will of Philip, Lord Wharton 1696". All page edges in gilt. Previous owners inscription on front endpaper. Pages remain firmly bound to spine, which has some chipping and wear at top edge. No further inscriptions, stamps, or similar found inside book. Pages are bright and clean. The book shows signs of wear on the hardcover which is consistent with it's age and use, but inside the book is in great condition for its age no foxing or tanning. Has the indexed atlas to The Holy Bible.
